History of Portuguese Women in Academia: Statistical Maps

The statistical maps from the project History of Portuguese Women in Academia overview women's participation in the academic life in Portuguese universities (OPorto, Coimbra and Lisbon) from the end of the 19th century to 1970. The presented data refers only to enrolments but graduations will be also investigated in a near future. Many Portuguese women were able to enter in the universities in this period, but not all successfully graduated. This happened due to many reasons, especially those linked to social pressure regarding marriage and motherhood. Data regarding PhDs in the period from 1917 e 2010 is also presented.
